An Artist Must Believe

Many of us have faith that when we get up in the morning we will be able to walk. We don't think twice about it. Do you remember your last breath? Many of the things we do on a day to day basis have become so common that we do not even think about how to do it. This is why being an artist can be such a challenging career.
Every time an artist approaches the beginning of a new original work, he is confronted with chaos, and only a hope that can see him to the end of this new invention. To be successful, the artist must believe that his work will become what it is supposed to be, when all indications point to it being a big ugly mess. Through constant mental focus, the piece begins to take shape and eventually, his faith is rewarded.... sometimes.
The hardest part is going through the day to day habits of necessary drudgery, while staying mentally alert, this yields this ephemeral thing called good art. The more this is done, the greater the growth of the artist, the greater the success rate. If you bat .300 in the baseball, you are successful. 3 out of 10. The formula to success is to do a lot of work, and stay mentally focused, refusing to go on autopilot. By using this mental focus, you bring a thought into the physical world. This becomes a small miracle. Every miracle requires faith, and every faith has to have a believer.
